LAHORE: Addressing a rally in Pano Aqil on Thursday, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah said that only the people get to choose their next prime minister, not Nawaz Sharif.
“How can he decide who the next prime minister would b
e when the authority to choose the PM lies with the people?” he said.
Khurshid’s statement was i
n reference to the former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif’s announcement on Wednesday in which he no
minated his brother Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s candidature for the premiership.
The announcement came af
ter a party meeting held at Nawaz’s residence J
ati Umra. Nawaz also said that despite the difference of opinion between them, he was happy with his brother for never having violated the party discipline.
Earlier in July, the former primer had no
minated his brother for the same position but the latter declined, citing the problems Punjab government’s projects would suffer if he took the position.
